TPRC Horns on the Range — a hunter-style steel series at Twin Peaks Rifle Club.
Season: December 2026 – September 2027
How it works
- One rifle-equity adjustment is applied once, at the end of each match.
- Everyone ranks on one board. Classes and tags are labels only — they decide awards, not the ladder.
- Stages are practical and field-oriented, with moderate time pressure and predictable scoring.
Scoring (3-1-0)
Every scoring target is engaged with two rounds:
- First-round hit = 3 points
- First-round miss, second-round hit = 1 point
- Both miss = 0
A third shot is never scored.
- A One-shot stage pays 3 only for a first-round hit.
- Targets marked MOVE never score.
- Stage maximum = 3 × the number of scoring targets.
Rifle equity
At check-in the rifle is weighed, and may be chronographed. One equity number is built from four parts:
- Recoil index — bullet grains × velocity ÷ rifle weight, measured against a reference rifle whose recoil index is 36,000
- Weight band — lighter rifles earn, heavier rifles give up
- Production rifle: +1
- Suppressor: +0.5
The four parts are added together and held inside ±5. Equity is applied once, at the end of the match:
- Match score = raw steel + equity
Season
- Season window: December 2026 – September 2027
- Season points are percentage-based: each shooter's match score becomes a percentage of the top score in their group, then the Best-N regular matches plus the finale (× multiplier) set the standing
- Everyone stays on one ladder. No separate PRM class is derived.
- A pair counts as one row on both partners' pages.
Classes and tags
Everyone ranks on a single list. Tags are read from the rifle:
- Field — unmodified production rifle
- Light — 12 lb or under
- Standard — 16 lb or under
- Open — over 16 lb (labeled only, no weight-class award)
- Magnum — power factor 450,000 or higher (stacks with the weight band)
Awards run in this order: overall podium, then a podium for each tag the field is wearing (Field, Light, Standard, Magnum), then category awards (Lady, Junior, and so on).
Tiebreaks
Level match scores are settled in this order:
- Higher raw steel
- Higher power factor
- Lighter weighed rifle
- More first-round hits
- Higher recoil index
- Lower summed last-shot time
Key notes
- Default stage times are 4:00 for individuals and 6:00 for pairs. The director may adjust these per stage.
- Last-shot time is required on every card, and is used only for tiebreaks.
- Equity is locked at check-in and never changes during the match.
- Stage cards stay raw. The equity adjustment shows up only on the final match total.
- There is no weigh-in ladder and no class pens. Teams are allowed: a pair is scored on the adjusted basis and counts as one row on both partners' pages.
