Overview

What to expect

PRM Hunter (3-1-0) — centerfire rifle, 6 stages and 50 rounds. The courses of fire are held back until match day. Shooters keep their own cards, with range officers on the line.

Twin Peaks Horns on the Range — part of the TPRC Horns on the Range at Twin Peaks Rifle Club.

What it is

A hunter-style match with six stages, unknown distance, and field positions. Targets are set in the country rather than on a square range. Score it like a hunt: find the target, range it, make the shot. The wind is part of the stage.

Scoring (3-1-0)

Every target is shot with two rounds:

  • First-round hit = 3 points
  • Second-round hit = 1 point
  • Miss = 0

A third shot does not count.

Match score = raw steel + rifle equity

Equity is worked out once, at the end of the match, and added to your steel points.

Rifle equity

Your rifle is weighed at check-in, and may be chronographed. Equity is built from four parts, then capped at ±5.

  • Recoil index — bullet grains × velocity ÷ rifle weight, compared against a reference rifle. More recoil per pound earns points, less gives them up. Capped at ±3.
  • Weight band — under 12 lb earns, over 12 lb gives up. 0.4 for each half pound, and 0.8 for each half pound past 16 lb.
  • Field (production) — +1 if the rifle meets the factory rules below.
  • Suppressor — +0.5.

What the weight band pays:

  • 10.5 lb = +1.2
  • 12 lb = 0
  • 14 lb = −1.6
  • 17 lb = −4.8

Examples

Example 1 — light production rifle. 10.5 lb, no suppressor, factory rifle, moderate recoil.

  • Weight band: +1.2
  • Field: +1
  • Suppressor: 0
  • Recoil index: +0.5
  • Equity = +2.7

Example 2 — heavy rifle with suppressor. 15.5 lb, suppressor, not production.

  • Weight band: −2.8
  • Field: 0
  • Suppressor: +0.5
  • Recoil index: −1.0
  • Equity = −3.3

Example 3 — light magnum production. 11 lb, factory rifle, high velocity (magnum).

  • Weight band: +0.8
  • Field: +1
  • Suppressor: 0
  • Recoil index: +2.0
  • Equity = +3.8

A heavy rifle gives up points twice: once on the weight band, once on the recoil index.

Factory rifle rules

To earn the Field (+1) bonus, the rifle must be an unmodified factory SKU from the approved list: Barrett, Bergara, Browning, Christensen Arms, CZ, Howa, Kimber, Remington, Ruger, Savage, Seekins, Sig Sauer, Springfield, Tikka, Weatherby, Winchester, and others on the NRL Hunter Factory list.

Allowed:

  • Any magazine that fits and is legal
  • Factory adjustable trigger set to factory specs
  • Picatinny or ARCA rail, or a cheek riser, if it uses factory mounting points
  • Aftermarket muzzle device or suppressor if the barrel came threaded and capped

Not allowed:

  • Changes to the action, bolt, bolt knob, trigger, barrel contour, or bottom metal
  • Bedding
  • Drilling, tapping, or lightening the stock or chassis

Ranking and awards

Everyone ranks on one list. Tags are labels only:

  • Field — production rifle
  • Light — 12 lb or under
  • Standard — 16 lb or under
  • Magnum — power factor 450,000 or higher

Tiebreak order, if scores are equal:

  • Higher raw steel
  • Higher power factor
  • Lighter rifle
  • More first-round hits
  • Higher recoil index
  • Lower total time

Awards: overall, then Field / Light / Standard / Magnum, then categories (Lady, Junior, and so on).

Season

Season window: December 2026 – September 2027. Best-3 matches plus the finale multiplier, and everyone stays on one ladder.
