Overview

What to expect

PRM Hunter (3-1-0) — centerfire rifle, 4 stages and 42 rounds. The courses of fire are held back until match day. Shooters keep their own cards, with range officers on the line.

The Twin Peaks Gyp Hills Hunter Test Match is a field-style competition held at the Twin Peaks Rifle Club on November 7, 2026. This event is designed for hunters to test their skills in finding targets, ranging, and building stable positions in the field.

This is a TEST MATCH. We are proving the course, the clock, the classes, the weight handicap, and RO scoring before we lock a full Gyp Hills Hunter format. You will shoot a real match with real scores. We will ask for feedback at the end of the day so the next one is tighter.

Match schedule and logistics - Check-in begins at 8:00 AM, followed by a zero board at 8:15 AM. - The match starts promptly at 9:30 AM. - Entry fee is $40, with discounts for Twin Peaks Range members and youth. - Registration opens September 18 and closes November 6, with a 24-shooter capacity. - You must register and pay online.

Match format and rules - There are four blind stages involving unknown distances and natural positions. - Individuals get 4 minutes per stage; teams of two get 6 minutes. - Scoring is 3-1-0: a first-round hit pays 3, a second-round hit after a first-round miss pays 1, and a miss on both rounds pays 0. A one-shot target is hit for 3 or missed for nothing. - Shooters must carry gear in a hunting backpack. - A cold range is in effect; bolts must be to the rear during movement. - Spotting for partners is permitted, but coaching non-team shooters is prohibited. Youth shooters can and must be assisted by an adult during the match.

Rifle classes and rifle equity - Rifles limited to 3,200 FPS - Your class is read off the rifle at the scale, by weight: Light (12 lb or under), Standard (over 12 lb, up to 16 lb), and Open (past 16 lb — labelled on the board, but it takes no award). - Magnum is read off the cartridge rather than the rifle, so it stacks with your weight class: a power factor of 450,000 or more (bullet grains x FPS) is Magnum. Example: 6.5 CM with a 147 gr ELD at 2,750 FPS is 147 x 2,750 = 404,250 — not Magnum. - Field is a tag, not a class, and it stacks with any of them: an unmodified production rifle, ticked on your entry card and confirmed at the scale. It pays +1.0 on the rifle equity. - Rifle weight includes the optic, bipod, muzzle device, and any mounted assistive electronics. - Slings, ammo, magazines, tripods, and passive cameras are excluded from weight. - There is no weight ladder. The rifle equity levels the field instead, and it is summed once into your adjusted score: - Recoil index — bullet grains x velocity ÷ rifle pounds, read against this match's baseline rifle (38,500). Up to ±3, paid to the harsher-shooting rifle per pound and given up by the softer, heavier one. - Weight band — +2 at 8.5 lb or under, level from 9 lb to 12 lb, then −0.4 for each half pound past 12 lb, and steeper past 16 lb. - Suppressor — +0.5 for a suppressor on for the whole match. The can's own weight already sits in your rifle's weight, so it is never also credited off it. - Factory Ammo - +1 for any person shooting factory ammo during the whole match.

Required gear and match day - Bring your rifle, ammo, pack, sling, bipod or bag, rangefinder, binos, data, and PPE. - Teams should provide adequate support gear for two people. - Dress appropriately for Kansas prairie weather and bring water and a seat. - Entry fees are non-refundable.

Field — the unmodified production rifle (+1.0 on the rifle equity)

Tick Field on your entry card and we confirm it at the scale. To claim it, the rifle must be an unmodified production rifle — the publicly sold stock, chassis and barrel, with no work done to it:

What you may and may not change:

Trigger — No swap, polish, or modification. Factory-adjustable triggers may be adjusted per factory specs only.

Action — No modification. No bedding.

Bolt / bolt knob — No modification.

Stock / chassis — No drilling, tapping, or permanent weight reduction. Rails (Picatinny/ARCA) and weights only if they attach to factory mounting points. Cheek riser is OK if it attaches without modifying the stock.

Barrel — No contour, length, or material change. A shot-out barrel must be replaced with the same factory barrel from that manufacturer.

Feeding — Cannot convert top-feed to box mag.

Bottom metal — No modification.

Magazines — Any mag that fits the rifle and is legal in that state.

Muzzle device — If the barrel ships threaded and capped, you may add an aftermarket brake or suppressor. If it ships with a factory brake, you generally keep that brake or add a suppressor, unless an identical model is sold threaded with no brake. Unthreaded barrels stay unthreaded.
